Category Image Microsoft SQL Server  (SQL Server) is a relational database management system developed by Microsoft Corporation which captures, stores and retrieve information for software applications. It is written in C++, and runs on Transact-SQL, the Microsoft's and Sybase's proprietary extension to SQL. SQL Server is represented in several editions with different features to allow for databases to be created for small single user applications to applications used by millions of people in many locations across the globe. SQL Server also includes a number of add-on services like Reporting or Notification services which are not essential for core database management system operation but significantly expand its capabilities. Its primary query languages are T-SQL and ANSI SQL.
